When Irish Eyes are Smiling

It might be the thought of green beer or the hunt for the little peoples pot of gold under the rainbow, but this time of year makes me speak in an Irish accent and dance a little River dance.

Just where did I learn this little jig? From Darby O' Gill and the Little People, of course. The film stars a young Sean Connery in a tale of Leprechauns, pots of gold and banshees. I remember seeing this movie when I was a little kid in the theater and loved it so much I made my sister sit through the movie 3 more times. We watched the movie for the whole day. I'm pretty sure my sister went out and flirted with boys as I danced around the theater secretly wishing I could find the pot of gold and buy all the candy in the world. Hey-it could happen!

Speaking of dancing and singing. The next wonderful Irish movie is The Commitments. The soundtrack alone is worth checking out the film. Jimmy, a young unemployed Irish idea man,  decides to put together a soul group in his depressing slum of Dublin. The band is formed, but strife seems to rear it's ugly head, causing chaos to erupt, tearing the band apart. My hubby says this is the best film that shows what being in a band in real life is really like.

Our last stop on this cinematic tour of the Emerald Isle, is one of the most moving pieces of Cinema I have ever seen. In the Name of the Father is a true story of several Irish citizens, including a father and son, who are wrongly accused and convicted of an IRA bombing. A British lawyer helps clear their name and brings the father and son together. Warning! This is a very strong story that can polarize people and make you break out into tears when seeing injustice done in the world. You've been warned

After reviewing these 3 films Irish themed movies, I think I have found what I am looking for. They will make you laugh, dance, sing and give hope to the world around us, and that is definitely the pot of gold at the end of the proverbial rainbow.

Feel Good Friday!

It's Friday, get dancing! It's Friday, shake your bootie! Whoop! Whoop! Hello lovelies! Thanks for the well wishes-I'm feeling better and back in the saddle again. Yeehaw! Fine-I'll take it down a notch. I'm just happy that it's the weekend and all I've got planned is to be 100% awesome. Oh yeah, you heard me. Awesome called and Pam answered. Let's see what I've got for you to be equally as awesome!

You know I love a good stache and this one is too cute to pass up. Saturn_art did such a great job.  Wanna know what else is great about this little cutie? You can win it! You heard me right! Head on over to this blog and find out the details.

Galadarling.com has been around for some time but her recent post about weight and self love caught my attention. She has such an amazing outlook on life and love. Her blog is just one big bundle of beautiful! I love her "Things I love Thursday", they always put a smile on my face. This article is awesome. Preach it sista!

Lately I have been wanting calling cards. I am constantly connecting with people and want little cards that have my name, website, phone number on them. I just can't decide which one I want. Any ideas? Here are a few that I really like.

Hey Look! I'm making silly melt and pour soap. Notice the creepy elf head cookie jar. That thing greets me every morning.

Baby otter! I have seen this face on the pups too many times. It's the "What? I didn't do anything" face,  or the
"Seriously mom?" face.  Too adorable! I'm dying over the cuteness of the nose and whiskers.

So, whether you're snuggling up with your own otter, dedicating your life to the pursuit of  the mustache or just going out and being fabulous-have fun! This is not a dress rehearsal.

A bear does WHAT in the woods?

So, I'm sorry that I have been MIA the past couple of days. I have been super duper sick! I'm feeling a little better-thanks for asking.

Over the weekend, I went to an antique show and found these cute little guys. I couldn't pass them up.

The one with the fish is just too cute! Enjoy!

It's Ladies Night....

Let's hear it for all the ladies in the house! Whoop Whoop! After last night's Oscars and in honor of International Women's Day, I think it's time to celebrate the ladies of the silver screen. Now, there are a MILLION wonderful movies and actresses out there, so it makes is really hard to pick just a few-but I'm going to do it anyway.

One of my favorite actresses is Barbara Stanwyck. All of her characters were tough as nails and you wonder if her own life transcribed into the sirens she played on screen.  One of her most intriguing roles was Phyllis Dietrichson in Double Indemnity with Fred Murray. This Billy Wilder movie is film noir at it finest with murder and mystery around every corner.

I think so many times we seem to miss the true strength in a woman and her character when it is overshadowed by a certain label. Pam Greer as Foxy Brown is one of those movies. Foxy Brown can kick ass and look damn good while doing it. When her man is shot down by the government, Foxy seeks revenge.  Sure the movie was a little blue and the writing wasn't  spectacular but it solidified Pam Greer as a force to be reckoned with.

Okay, let me first say that in no way do I EVER promote violence against one another but when Faye Dunaway screamed,"NO WIRE HANGERS!" in Mommy Dearest, It gave me chills. I have not been able to look at Joan Crawford in the same light since that film. The amazing performance by Dunaway made you hate, yet feel sorry for Crawford. You wanted her to get everything bad she had coming and yet you loved to see her go toe to toe with a board room full of bullies.

Whether these ladies are playing mothers, lovers or fighters, they have blazed the way for future generations to achieve their goals. Now get out there and create your own story. For, you my friend are some character.

Feel Good Friday!

I'm smelling it-are you? No, not the dog! Spring is in the air! The trees are blooming, flowers are peaking out to say hello, the birds are chirping at 6 in the morning. Time to shake off those winter blues and start thinking about the merriment of spring.

Egret Flowers, Bleeding Hearts and Passion flower
I LOVE fresh flowers! These are so neat. I am determined to have some sort of weird funky alien pod flower in my backyard that will scare people.  The Egret flowers are so neat! I hope I can grow them in my zone.

Speaking of awesome! Have you seen The Happy Zombie blog? Now before all you gore gore girls get excited, the happy zombie is a super awesome blog about quilting, crafting and absurdity (her words, not mine). The Norwegian curling pants inspired quilt is to die for-get it, happy zombie, to die for..hello? I was excited when I saw all the amazing crafts but almost wet myself to find out that she lives in Astoria, OR-one of my favorite coastal communities where my all time favorite hotel is.

Who's gonna go see Alice in Wonderland this weekend? Enjoy these Alice inspired goodies on Etsy!

Get out there! Get that garden growing! Enjoy a little bit of life. You deserve it!

See, even baby bunny approves!

The happiness of life is made up of minute fractions—the little soon-forgotten charities of a kiss, a smile, a kind look, a heartfelt compliment in the disguise of a playful raillery, and the countless other infinitesimals of pleasurable thought and genial feeling.
