Tie One On Tuesday

It snowed here last night...snowed...here...last night. I am usually a fan of the snow but c'mon Mother Nature! Work with me! It's March, I need some sun, I need some warmth, I need to go to a tropical island.

While I can't get away to a tropical location, I can have a few beverages to remind me of warmer weather.

I can feel the water on my toes, Frankie and Annette surfing by me on their longboards. I can almost taste the Blind Surfer...no, not some random dude sitting next to me, but a yummy fruity concoction.

The Blind Surfer
2 oz light rum
1/2 oz pisco brandy
1 tsp Blue Curacao liqueur
3 oz grapefruit juice
2 oz mango juice
1 oz passion-fruit juice
1 tsp orgeat syrup
Shake that baby up and serve over ice. Umbrella optional.

One of my favorite things to do when I visit southern California is to go down to the boardwalk in  Santa Monica. I haven't been in years but I love it nonetheless. Whipping up a Boardwalk Breeze reminds me of walking down the pier and finding the best vintage stores. If you ever get a chance, go there-if you can't make it, this beverage is the next best thing.

Boardwalk Breeze
1 1/2 oz coconut rum
1 1/2 oz amaretto  liqueur
1 part orange juice
1 part pineapple juice
1 dash grenadine syrup
Shake and strain ingredients into a hurricane glass.

Okay, so I don't have a beach (the Oregon coast is FREEZING) and I can't get away- but I can download some wave sounds to my ipod, burn a Hawaiian Tropic candle (to this day, I will always associated Hawaiian Tropic suntan lotion with spring break), have OMP put on a cabana boy outfit and serve me by the pool or what is otherwise known as our bathtub.

By The Pool
1 oz  melon liqueur
1 oz peach schnapps
1 oz orange juice
1 oz 7-Up soda
ice
Shake briskley for 10 seconds and serve in a tall glass over ice.

It may be the alcohol taking effect but I am feeling warmer already.  Now, where is that cabana boy with a refill. He is never going to get a tip this way. I advise him to show a little skin-there's a fiver in it for him. Bottoms up!

Feel Good Friday!

Nothing feels better on a Friday than a sunny warm day, disconnecting from the world and playing ball with your besties. Have a great weekend!

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too.

Daisy Chick Pattern

I couldn't resist posting these vintage daisy chickens and roosters. I love how the chick just has little polka dots on him, he hasn't grown his daisies yet!

Just My Luck

I don't know how many of you know this or not, but I am terrified of the dentist. Absolutely completely terrified. Just typing the word "dentist" makes me break out in a cold sweat. I am not even messing around when I tell you that I would much rather be waterboarded than to have to go to the dentist. It is a crippling fear.  Well, I finally bit the bullet and made an appointment.

Last night I had nightmares about the appointment but I knew that I had to go. This morning  I got myself all worked up, put on my brave face and walked into the dentist office. I was ready to conquer my fears. I walked up to the desk, said I had an appointment and the receptionist gave me a blank stare. HELLLOOOO! This is a really big deal for me and I'm scared and I might cry and I have an appointment and are you hearing me....

She looked at me in my panicked state and replied, "Your appointment is tomorrow at 9."

My Weekend with a Box of Thin Mints

You guys! I was a slug this weekend! Seriously, I did not do a thing! I hope your weekend was more productive than mine. While I laid on the couch, downing my last box of Thin Mints (don't judge...the box does say THIN) I watched the following movies...well, kind of watched, I napped and was occasionally woken up while the dogs nibbled the crumbs off my chest and belly. I said don't judge!

I love Rowan Atkinson. He just cracks me up. When I popped in Johnny English Reborn, I had high hopes....it was the beginning of my first nap. Don't get me wrong, it was funny and cute but not belly aching I can't stop snorting laughing, but good. Atkinson plays a a dismissed secret agent who eventually comes back and as you guess, saves the day. Like I said before, it's a good rental but I wouldn't go any further than that.

I could have sworn in the middle of my Thin Mint daze that the dogs cued up another movie. I can't be 100% sure but I thought I saw Jujube throwing in her favorite DVD, Footloose. I had no idea the Be had so many great moves but she kept up with every single dance Kevin Bacon threw at her. I've heard the new Footloose is just as fun as the original, but I'm not buying it. The music, dancing and corny story are just absolutely perfect and make me happy even to this day. For the record, I think if everyone danced when they were mad, the world would be at peace.

After watching the dogs dance around to Kenny Loggins and realizing that I needed to lay off the Thin Mints, I decided to watch one more movie. I needed something animated, something fun, something Johnny Depp-ish. I needed Rango. Now, let's get something straight, this movie isn't really made for young kids. It is an animated spaghetti western populated by animals. The vivid animation and strong characters make this movie brilliant. The humor is very adult oriented but teens and tweens should get a kick out of too.

So, eating a few boxes of Thin Mints may not have been the best for me. I woke up with a belly ache, a sugar hangover and blisters on my feet from trying to keep up with dancing dogs but I did get to see a bunch of great movies and I highly suggest that you grab a couple boxes of cookies, throw the DVD into the player and curl up on the couch. Cookie coma begins....now!

Feel Good Friday!

Oh My GAWD! You guys! It's Friday! The weekend is here! Go Friday! Go Friday! Whoop!

This will be me in a few hours. It just needs three little dogs running around to make it complete. Lazydoll stitches and draws the cutest girls. Is it possible to give embroidery a hug?

I know that a lot of people aren't into camping but what about glamping? It's fancy camping where you don't have to rough it but you can be out with nature. I'm pretty sure I need to try it out, just to see if I would like it.  Look at it! It's so pretty ! Check out GlampingGirl.com for all of your glamp needs. They list different places with prices and reviews.

Think I'll be able to fly with this bag? I don't see a problem. Whimsybags prints up great bags for all of your needs.

It's the OMP of baby chicks!

Whew! So many awesome things to make me feel good today! I hope your weekend is fabu and it's full of glam, OMP chicks and bubble baths-maybe not all together, that could be a bit dicey!

What you do today is important because you are exchanging a day of your life for it.

Reason 556

Reason 556 that I love OMP.

The past couple of nights I have been having horrible nightmares. The other night was the absolute worse! I made OMP get up with me and walk around the house to make sure it was safe. He got up, no questions asked and made sure everything was safe and there were no monsters lurking in the shadows.

That's just half of the reason I love this man...last night, right before bed, OMP made sure I was having happy thoughts. We watched a funny movie and then started to doze into slumberland. I was just about asleep and started to have another bad dream. I put my hand on OMP and asked him to talk to me. We decided to think of happy things and the conversation went a little like this:

OMP: Think of happy thoughts, what makes you happy?
Me: Well, I want to dye Easter eggs this year.
OMP: There ya go. Pink Easter Eggs
Me: Can we put googly eyes on them?
OMP: The eggs? Only if you add angry eyebrows. By the way, why did you think crackers would stop ghosts?
 Me: What?
OMP:: In your text yesterday-you said you could stop ghosts with crackers.
Me: I said I was going to use crackers for the meatloaf  since we didn't have bread  crumbs and my dream was about ghosts attacking me. You can't stop ghosts with crackers.
OMP:Punctuation is not your strong point is it? It's a good think you're cute.

Suddenly I burst into laughter, thinking of throwing saltines and wheat thins at ghosts to make them stop attacking  me.

Me: I love you.
OMP: I love you too, now go get the box of wheat thins from the cabinet, I'm hungry and you need your ghost fighting supplies.

This is my 556 reason to love OMP. He is one that I definitely would not kick out of bed for eating crackers.

PS-My dreams last night were about  mad googly eyed Easter eggs, but that's a whole other story.
