October is....

For those of you who don't know-October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. As many of you know, I work for a crisis line. Last month we took almost 2,400 calls. This is a scary number to me. All of the shelters in my area are full and have been for well over 9 months. I'm sure that my area is not just the only one that is getting swamped by calls and shelters being full. It's a disgusting trend that must stop. Domestic Violence affects us all. If you are in an abusive relationship or know someone who is, there are people out there that can help you break the cycle. Want to get involved? Check out and see what your local shelters and crisis line need. Demand from your lawmakers better and safer laws. We must make a commitment as a community, as human beings to stop violence.

Which leads me into another thing October is. It is Breast Cancer Awareness month. There are so many companies and organizations out there that are helping and yet there still is no cure. Please take time to get a breast exam. I know our partners/loved ones are more than willing to help out with this one! Again, demand from your lawmakers for better and free testing, for more research.

And finally-October 15th is Love Your Body day. We are so bombarded by the media telling us how we should look, what it is to be a "woman". News flash! We are not all size 8's and 6 feet tall! We are short, skinny, fat, tall, athletic. We come in all sizes, shapes, colors and yes! PERSONALITIES! One size does not fit all! Love your body!

I love the fact that there is a love your body day!!! Everyone should love themselves in order to love others around them!!!

Glad to get this reminder! In college I volunteered at a shelter, and it was an awakening experience.
