So long suckers!

Well, it's the last day of 2008-Thank God! So, to jump on the bandwagon, here's some of my hits and misses for 2008.

Hits:
Election night-I still get chills and teary eyed when I watch the news reels. Words can not describe the pride I felt in my country.

Life altering happiness for my friends. Babies, new jobs, new houses. It makes me happy when my friends are happy.

New Music: New music from The Black Kids, Santogold, The Ting Tings, Vampire Weekend. Indie rock was actually good this year.

Movies: Iron man (Robert Downey Jr. ME-OW!), In Bruges, Cloverfield, Be Kind, Rewind. I'll admit that I haven't seen a ton of new movies but these are ones that stuck out with me.

Tina Fey playing Sarah Palin. Priceless

The Misses:

While on the subject of Sarah Palin-she's an idiot. Enough said.

Prop 8-with as much pride as I had in my country, I felt like I was sucker punched when this passed.

The loss of loved ones and people who inspired me. You will be sadly missed and will forever hold a place in my heart.

Movies: Where to I start?

Dark Knight-now before everyone jumps all over me saying how great this movie was, you're wrong. I'll give you Heath Ledger but the rest of the movie- crap

Indiana Jones-Dear Lord! I had to kick my own ass for watching this movie. Two hours of my life, I will never get back.

That's just the beginning and I'm sure I could go on and on but I just want to tell 2008 to get the hell off my lawn! I am looking forward to 2009 and I am determined that it will be a good year.

I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe New Years eve. I hope the new years brings you mountains of happiness, success, calm and peace. I can't wait to see all the whacky adventures ahead of us. May peace, love and happiness follow you.

I'm outta here-see ya next year! Peace out! (oh yeah, I'm bringing that back for 2009)

Books, books, books...

One of my goals for 2009 is to read a book each month. I love reading but hardly put time aside to do it. Also, I can never find good books. I love mysteries, most non-fiction. I hate romance novels and not big into sci-fi. I do like a good horror novel. Mainly I like period pieces from the industrial age. So, tell me-what's your favorite book? What do you recommend?

And it snowed, and snowed, and snowed....

So, for those of you who don't know about about the Pacific Northwest, we get rain. LOTS of rain, like almost 9 months out of the year rain. Snow, maybe 2 inches a year. It never gets that cold. Well, Mother Nature decided to show us exactly what she is made of. Conversation with my husband:
(weather channel):We are expecting 4-10 inches of snow, ice, and then snow again
Me: BS! I'll believe it when I see it. They couldn't predict a snow storm if they were in the middle of it.
Mark: Honey, it's gonna be a blizzard.
Me: Psh....

Two days later: (this is our pond)

Mark: I blame you for all this snow
Me: Well, I'll be damn.
Mark: Yeah, blaming you.

We did have a pond.....

Any chance to dress up Jujube is a good day for me. The snow is up to my knee. We got about 12 inches and there is another storm coming on Wednesday.

We also use to have a dog, now we just have a snowball with ears and crazy eyes. If you see this beast, run the other way. The cuteness will kill you on the spot.

This storm has really crippled the city. They have closed a highway down in the Columbia Gorge because of snow and ice and wind. We had gust ranging from 40-70 mph. It was just crazy! Some of the buses aren't running and a cab wait is about 8 hours. We aren't even getting mail, cause it can't come in from the east cause the highway being closed. So, lesson learn-I'll keep my mouth shut (yeah right)

It snowed!

Yesterday we got snow. I love snow! Normally in the Portland area we usually get one snow a year if even that. Mainly just rain. Well, it's suppose to snow this whole week and into next. I'm so excited! Here are a few pictures of the white stuff and the pups freezing their butts off. Along with the snow, the temperatures are so cold! The high today was 26. It's getting down in the teens at night. BRRRRRR!

Since it's been cold and snowy a lot of birds have been in our back yard. We have several hummingbirds. Here is one of the regulars. I can't believe how fearless they are. It's so weird to see them stationary. I love hummingbirds!

Mr. Kato decided to stay in. Smart choice.

Oh Christmas tree, Oh Christmas tree!

Our tree is up and decorated. It's so cute and smells WONDERFUL! The skirt belonged to Mark's mother. The little mouse ornament was her's too. It's so nice to have something from his family. The 2008 Pedersen Christmas CD is done too. Although, I think nothing can compare to my 2007 CD this one comes very close. How can you go wrong with when songs include "Santa wants some lovin'" and "Oi to the world"?

I've also been watching a ton of Christmas movies/shows. Can I tell you how much I love Rankin and Bass Christmas specials? A Year Without a Santa Claus-classic! I've also been watching White Christmas way too much. I save A Christmas Story for Christmas day when I can watch it over and over on TBS.

Oh yeah, and my own personal rant. This morning on the CBS morning show they were doing "Hand made" gifts-because people are so strapped for cash this season (please! Handmade does not equal cheap, ya bastards). The thing that bothered me most was that the hand made stuff wasn't even hand made. They just bought stuff from the store and put it together in a basket or took all the dry ingredients for cookies and put them in jars. Give me a break. CBS morning news, you get the finger.

All the children's smiling faces....

Who doesn't love Santa and Christmas? Apparently, these children.

On other related news-my dad's wife is doing better. She is able to walk now and has a little bit of use of her hand. I want to give a BIG THANKS to all my friends who are so supportive. Even when I thought I was alone, I could jump online and see everyone's smiling faces and wonderful comments and have my spirits lifted.

Mark and I went to a super fun party this weekend. Here's our traditional picture.

More to come! I've uploaded a ton of pictures.

Crazy times

So, I've been a little MIA lately. A lot of really stressful stuff has been going on and I haven't had a chance to catch up. My dad's wife had a stroke on Wednesday morning and I have basically been at the hospital every day since then. She is partially paralyzed but the recovery is looking good. Okay, so that's the first stressor. The second, they found a "lump" on my dad's prostrate and he has to go in on Friday for a biopsy. He is very healthy and should be okay but he is the only parent I have left and so I'm a little nervous. Okay, third stressor-yesterday would have been my mom's birthday. She passed away 7 years ago from a head injury which brings me back to be stressed about the stroke. What, there can't be any more...oh but there is...the anniversary of my mom's death is next week. Yepppers....good times. Did I mention that I am also starting a new part time job? No..well, I am. So-lots of crap going on but I am trying to stay positive.

In the note of staying positive, I have been embroidering like a mad woman and decorating my house.I love Christmas and decorating really put me in a better mood. Here are a few pictures of the house. We are getting our tree tomorrow or Wednesday.

Thanks to everyone who has been so wonderful to me and checking in. I love my friends and family.

The holidays are upon us

Okay, I'll admit it. I love Christmas. I LOVE and I mean LOVE Christmas music. I am listening to it right now. I know, I'm a freak. I love the smell of Christmas, the cold weather and darker nights. I love it all. I love Christmas lights, the tacky decorations. I'm a big ol' marshmallow!

So, what are some of your favorite winter Holiday thoughts (they don't have to be about Christmas) or favorite songs. What about favorite toy when you were a kid?

Favorite song: Christmas in NY and Baby it's cold outside.

Favorite holiday memory: One that instantly comes to mind is last year it actually snowed on Christmas. That was my first one.

Favorite toy: Easy-hands down-Barbie Townhouse. I had that with her jet and her corvette. AWESOME! I loved that she had an elevator in her house.

The interview to end all interviews!

A while back BrookOwens asked to interview me for her blog. How could I resist? She is so awesome and so rad! Can I just tell you how awesome she made me look? LOL! If you want to get all the dirt on yours truly, check out

Not much is going on

It's been pretty quiet since I got back from the coast. We had such a blast! We had the Presidential Suite which was very fitting since it was election night and we have a wonderful new president. Even if you don't agree with his politics the pride and hope that people are experiencing makes me look forward to the future. So! Wanna see the room! It was CRAZY!

The first picture is of the front of our room. Yes, that is a baby grand piano. We also had a bathroom the size of my whole upstairs! The next picture is the coastline. I love the Pacific Northwest coastline. I do missing laying out in the sun but the rocky coast is so beautiful. The last picture is of Mark at Camp Disappointment. I love that name.

Oh yeah, one more thing. I came across this tree and I am DYING to know the name of it. I want to plant on in my yard. Does anyone know. Those are the actual flowers/leaves on it. It's beautiful.

Happy Anniversary!

Tomorrow is mine and the hubby's 2nd wedding anniversary. I would post something tomorrow but I will be out of town at the coast, enjoying the rain and the surf. We are staying at the Hotel Elliott. It is our 3rd time there. We went when we got engaged, our first anniversary and now our second. I love it! We got the romance package. Oh yeah!

So, I thought it would be nice to show off some pictures. I love you OMP. You are everything in the world to me. You are my saint. Thank you for keeping me sane, loving me no matter what, giving me the best life anyone could possibly imagine. Don't worry, I'm not gonna go "Wind beneath my wings" on ya but you are my savior. I love you more and more each day.

Here is a picture of our cake. We had a Day of the Dead/Tiki wedding at the oldest Tiki bar in Portland. It was so much fun!

I love you with every breath of life I have Mark. Thank you for making me the happiest woman in the universe.

Just me rambling...

Life is finally settling back down after crazy work stuff, Halloween and putting the house back together. I got to spend Halloween with some awesome peeps. We went and saw Mark play then went on a graveyard tour. It was really cool! I'm so glad that I felt better and could go. Other than that-I've just been concentrating on making lots of stuff and gearing up for the holidays. I LOVE Christmas as much as I love Halloween so even though I know I have two months, I still get excited.

Things I am loving right now:
Mark
my puppers
My friends-Kelsey and Hillary have been keeping me sane. You guys are amazing!
Busby Berkley movies
Christmas crafting

This is why I can't have nice things.

We were decorating for the Halloween party and Lola and Juju decided that this piece was just not fit to put out! What little monsters. I want to get them a remote control. I bet it would last about 10 minutes. I love the way Juju looks up at me as if to say, "Don't worry mom, we got it under control!" I love my babies.

A special super shout out of thanks first to sewits4you for hooking me up with kittycrossbones from etsy. Both people are amazing. Kittycrossbones helped me with my business cards, buttons, matchbook notes and bookmarks. She is FAB! I love her so much. Thank you! Thank you!

Here are the buttons.

October is....

For those of you who don't know-October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. As many of you know, I work for a crisis line. Last month we took almost 2,400 calls. This is a scary number to me. All of the shelters in my area are full and have been for well over 9 months. I'm sure that my area is not just the only one that is getting swamped by calls and shelters being full. It's a disgusting trend that must stop. Domestic Violence affects us all. If you are in an abusive relationship or know someone who is, there are people out there that can help you break the cycle. Want to get involved? Check out and see what your local shelters and crisis line need. Demand from your lawmakers better and safer laws. We must make a commitment as a community, as human beings to stop violence.

Which leads me into another thing October is. It is Breast Cancer Awareness month. There are so many companies and organizations out there that are helping and yet there still is no cure. Please take time to get a breast exam. I know our partners/loved ones are more than willing to help out with this one! Again, demand from your lawmakers for better and free testing, for more research.

And finally-October 15th is Love Your Body day. We are so bombarded by the media telling us how we should look, what it is to be a "woman". News flash! We are not all size 8's and 6 feet tall! We are short, skinny, fat, tall, athletic. We come in all sizes, shapes, colors and yes! PERSONALITIES! One size does not fit all! Love your body!

My Etsy shop

Finally! My Etsy shop is up. I am still working on how it looks and the content but it is up and running. YEAH! I have a few more items to put up and make it all nice a pretty. You can look to the side and see a few things I have for sale. It makes me very happy.
I want to shout a big thanks to OMP. He is the most awesome man alive! Thank you SO much for helping me. You are a rock star! I also want to give a shout out to Jean and all of my friends that kicked my butt into gear and are helping me with making the shop all pretty. I loves ya!

Hey moms! Want a calendar for you AND the kids!

So, this link and the info about this calendar comes courtesy of my friend HSG. Oh Helen! Why, why, why did you post this. Yep, that's right it's a naked clown calendar. Yes, I'm serious. Now before everyone gets all creeped out and crazy. The calendar is for a good cause. The proceeds go to help fight MS and I think that is amazing and wonderful-don't get me wrong. I think any crazy idea to get your cause out there should be awarded, but clowns...really?
And to make you cringe a little more- one of the questions on the calendar is: Who’s bendy like a gummy bear?. Honestly, I don't think I want to know.

I couldn't see whether or not it was the full monty going on but that might be even scarier.
Enjoy, and hey, if you need a present for grandma and for your niece-grab two calendars.

Pendants and The Scrappy dog society!

So, I am venturing into the land of jewelry and making pendants. I am planning on selling them on etsy and maybe at some shows. I'm pretty proud of them. Not much else is going on in the world of Pam, just trying to play catch up-which I think I am failing miserably at. Also-I am starting an organization (maybe on flickr, maybe a blog) that is going to be Scrappy dogs! You know the kind-if you know my Lola then you know a scrappy dog! So, once I get it set up I will be asking for pictures of your scrappy dogs. Maybe I should make patches for all the members of the SDS (ha!ha!)

The best blog!

If you haven't yet, please check out this blog. I was laughing my butt off tonight. It is a site about cakes gone horribly and humorously wrong. Here are a few of my favorites. www.cakewrecks.blogspot.com

Yes-this is someone's face on a football cake. Seriously, no, I'm not kidding

I don't know why people get so bent out of shape about Barbie's proportions. She seems fine to me

All I can think of is, "Maybe the dingo ate yer baby"

I so want this cake for my birthday, not a full size cake of me, but this exact one. The ego matches the cake.

Redwork Haunted house and other fun stuff...

I joined the vintage Halloween swap on craftster and this is the project I did for my partner. The ghost and the frame are glow in the dark. I hope she likes it. I am very pleased how it turned out.

Also, this weekend was the Safety in Numbers fund raiser for the crisis line I work for. It was a HUGE success. We had it at the Crystal Ballroom and there was a line down the street to get it. I couldn't believe it! I had a lot of friends from Craftster volunteer to donate auction items. All of them sold for crazy sums of money. Thank you ladies for all of your help! Words can not express how awesome you guys are. Mark won a DIY basket with a huge garage heater, a leatherman, and a gift certificate to Hippo Hardware. I won the craft basket which had 4 gift certificates to cool craft stores around the area (I plan on spending them this weekend) and a bunch of fat quarters and a cool bag. It was an awesome time!

Not so fun stuff, I was crazy sick on Sunday and stayed on the couch or in bed for the whole day-luckily I had Lola, Jujube and Kato to keep me company.

Things I'm diggin' right now

Here are a few things I am totally into right now.

Music:

King Khan and The Shrines-Fast moving, with some Bollywood thrown in for good measure. Awesome garage band music. It's as if MC5 and The Hives had a baby and went and got some Indian food on the way.

The Detroit Cobras-1960's girl group meets garage, meets, Marianne Faithful.

Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings -FUCKING amazing! If you have not heard them, seriously, go find them now. Think 1960's soul. The Dap Kings moonlighted as Amy Winehouse's back up band. So you might be familiar with them.

Santogold-Awesome beats, sassy, total kick ass hotness.

Conor Oberst-touted as the new Bob Dylan. Just good driving music.

The Beat Farmers-yes these guys are old, and actually a few of them are dead but man, if you like Alt-country, you will love these guys.

Estelle-The song American Boy with Kanye West. Catchy, dancing fun music.

Movies:
I have seriously been lacking in the new movie department but if you do nothing else in your life. Watch The Big Lebowski-not once but several times. It is the only way you will get it. Best movie known to man. I can watch it any time, any day, multiple times a day. If you don't get it, something is wrong with you.

Getting Ready for Halloween:
Yes, I know it's a little ways off but what a great holiday and so much fun. Scary music, movies, parties. My favorite holiday. Candy, dressing up-what more can you ask for.

My husband: He rocks and if you know, you know why.

Having my hair back to the 1920's bob.

Life
It's a crazy ride, but the dude abides.

The PWCL fund raising event is this Friday! I'm super excited about it and I think that it will be the best one ever. Everyone's hard work is finally coming together.

And last but not least-I spent Sunday with two good Friends up at Maryhill Museum and vineyard. Great friends, great wine, great works of art. I don't think I could have asked for a better day.

My head hurts

I have a headache and I want it to stop. Sorry I have been so neglectful to everyone-life is so chaotic-when is it not. I just want to be able to sit down and stitch. On the plus side, I finished the pillowcases for the auction and almost finished with the swap stuff. I have some super cool ideas on stuff to sell, so it's all good.

This was suppose to be the summer of Pam!

For the love of all things holy! I have been crazed lately. I've been so busy that I haven't had a chance to write. I actually haven't had a chance to do much of anything lately. I so need to time manage myself better. I made a list today of things I need to do daily/weekly/monthly and need to stick by them. I am trying to finish up a wedding present, stuff for the auction, and stuff to sell all before next week. I also haven't been walking lately, which I need to get my butt moving. I am thinking of investing in a treadmill so I can walk in the winter. I don't want to join a gym-that would be a waste of money. I just want to walk, nothing else, no yoga, no powerlifting, just walk...but I'm going off on a tagent. So....here's what's coming up.
The winner of the challenge
Trying to work out a radio/podcast/blogcast. Does anyone know who to do this? Would anyone listen?
Finish all my loose ends so when fall starts I can make stuff to sell.
Plan the Halloween fund raiser.
I miss you guys!

What I find amazing.

I'm reading other blogs, seeing different lifestyles and find it absolutely amazing how we all come from different backgrounds, religions, ages, areas in the world and yet we respect eachother, care for and about eachother, and bring peace and happiness into eachother's lives. In a world full of turmoil and sadness, I see how truly blessed we are to have that ray of sunshine. Just know that you make a difference in someone's life.

Lola attacking the computer

Lola attacking,
originally uploaded by kittykill.
So, I was trying to make sure I uploaded the videos I took of the dogs today, Needless to say, Lola was still wanting to attack the water.

Lola and Jujube playing in the water.

Today was a very fun day for Ms. Lola and The Be! Lola and Jujube had so much fun playing in the water and trying to keep us safe from the evil water. I love my puppies!

2. Lose some pounds!
3. Beauty treatments.

I could never be mad at you cupcake

Sorry Angie....I have to do it. I went to St. Cupcake today. I couldn't resist! I was looking up recipes for buttercream frosting because my next adventure is baking and I got a craving for the best cupcakes in Portland. Seriously-I have friends who come from Vancouver BC for these wonderful things. They even have vegan cupcakes! I got Mark three of his favorites (so Mark if you are reading this-SURPRISE!)

Now for some crafty news. Some things that I am currently working on: Tea towel for the candy/sweets swap. Pillow cases for the auction. I need to start on holiday stuff and a business plan. I get so scared and nervous that if I try to sell my stuff, no one will buy it. I know I'm a dork.

In other crafty good news. Craft Mafia (which started in Austin) is now in Portland. Once I get the business up and running I may join.

I am also working on personal challenges for August. More of that later.......

cool finds and cool tattoo

As Mark was saying....We found some super cool stuff. A set of bamboo glasses that we have been drooling over but were too expensive in town. A weird Witco sword and this....I love outsider art and love sad eye painting. The combo of the two.

More work done on my girl. The crow and small details like OMP and KLJ for Kato, Lola and Jujube. The flower inside the loop-if you look real close you can see the little stitch lines.

Invest in a map

Mark and I went on a little adventure yesterday up through Mt. Hood. We got a little lost and were on a dirt road for about 15 miles until we found the highway. I was getting a little worried. Before we made it to the mountain, we stopped in a small little town. The first place we stopped was at a yard sale. What drew us to the sale was a huge velvet Elvis blanket (the guy wasn't selling that) but the weird thing was that you had to park around back. Here is the entrance to the sale. I'm surprised we didn't end up as jerky. Yeah, totally creepy. Then we go into the small town and jump out to see this really cool bar that use to be an awesome tiki bar. This was right next to me. A yellow ribbon that looked like caution tape that says, "Until our troops come home" with a little girl's shoe attached to the ribbon. Bad juju going on there. We left at 2:00 and got home around 7-the majority of that was trying to find our way home. Note to self....buy a map.

Things to be thankful for

Dude~ Don't marsh my mellow...I say this because someone I know is really a downer and really gets to me when they shouldn't. It bugs me that it bothers me so much.

Anyhoo, I decided to make a list of things I am thankful for.
Mark
my dogs
my job
my house
My dad
my friends that read this blog and comment
that we made it out of Mt. Hood today without getting too lost and confused
I am crafty and pretty smart
I am street smart
I have awesome taste in movies and music
I have all my body parts

There is a ton more but I'm sure you get the picture.

Saturday, July 26, 2008

UGH! Wait, let me rethink that.

I can't believe I missed last night but I had a good excuse. Mark made a romantic dinner and I just couldn't bring myself to the computer. I'm sure you understand. It's Saturday, 10:00 and I'm working. Good times. Luckily it's been really slow. Okay, first I wrote that I was down but then I turned on my MP3 player and started dancing around the office to "I'm not gonna teach your boyfriend how to dance" and I feel much better (luckily I am by myself to spare the dancing embarrassment) Plus I just realized how silly it is for me to be down when there is a lot of worse things in the world than my pity party. So, I'm gonna blast my music and dance.

Looking for new music

I'm so bored with my music lately. Got any good suggestions? I've been listening to The Black Kids and think they are cute. I'm a big fan of rockabilly, indie, world music. I love old new wave and punk and French music.

What are you listening to on your music source of choice (Ipod, mp3 player, computer, tv)

Our backyard

I love our backyard so much. All of the flowers are blooming, we have a little garden on the side. The fish are happy. Every sunny day I want to be in our backyard-sipping on drinks, playing with the dogs. It is such a paradise in the city. The upper picture is of our tomatoes. I can't wait to make salsa! The color of the flower is so amazing. I love the pink with the blue center. Our banana plant is so huge! I hate that the leaves rip because of the wind.
