Inspiring Spaces

It's so interesting to see where people create. I love seeing how they organize, decorate and live. You guys truly inspire me! I thought I would share my creative space with you. It's a modgepodge of what OMP likes to call "grandma chic". A mixture of 1890-1960's style.

I love this chair. It's oversized, comfortable and the dogs can sit on the back and watch me stitch.

This is my desk with my books and magazines on one side and my fabrics on the other. Pens and hoops are in the middle.
I love my record player! OMP got it for me this past Christmas. There is nothing better than the warm sound of Bing's voice on vinyl.
Just two drawers of patterns. There are a lot more that aren't as organized...

The den of floss. It goes all the way back. Each little box is a different color and the bigger bins hold scraps and mismatch floss.

Now that you've seen my room, how about a give away...how's that for a tie in? Tell me what your ideal craft/art space is like and win this wonderful book, Vintage Craft Workshop. It has great crafts from the 60's and 70's.  A winner will be picked next Wednesday.

Oh, Pam! I am so jealous of your crafting space! I want a big comfy chair in my space sooooo badly! When I am rich and famous someday ;) and can afford to have any sort of space I want, it will include a HUGE round chair to lay down on and work from or take a break when I need to. I want a rounded room with bookshelves and a ladder like an old style library. I have a lot of Art books and instructional books and plan to have more. I want a HUGE display case for all my swap items to be in one place to show them off. I would have a sink in there to rinse my paints and stuff. And a desk for each place: sewing, painting, paper crafting, etc. There would be shelves and organizational drawers on EVERY wall for paints, threads, floss, paper, buttons, and all my mixed media goods. Also, I would have it linked to an outside shed, used for spray painting and gluing that was well ventilated but still warm in the winter. I want tiled, colorful floors that I could drip paint on and it would add to them. Whimsy in every corner, decorated with ALL the things I love. Don't forget the big screen tv with surround sound for watching Coraline and Alice in Wonderland, and listening to Meat Loaf! :D

a place with loads of natural light and space. A comfy chair and a work chair / table to boot! Also, crafty space for the kids.

My ideal room has lots of storage for all my fabrics and craft /sewing books. Would also want a big table for my sewing machine. My room also needs a comfy chair and good lighting for me to work on my embroidery!

I would love a little craft room of my own! Right now, I'm without one and it makes me sad. If I could create my own crafting space, I would have a medium sized room with a good comfy chair (similar to yours) with an embroidery stand and rolling floss case (think 4-5 shelves tall), a good cutting table, sewing table that never has to be disassembled, and large amounts of storage for my yarns and fabrics. I'd also love to have most of the walls covered in Hoopla! :D

I forgot to add that my cat perches in the exact same location behind me when I am stitching, only she doesn't watch. She bats me in the head with her paw for attention...repeatedly. ;)

Hi Pam,
I also love to see where other people live/work/create! I love that tiny glimps into someone elses life. I've often told my husband as we're driving around town, usually in the summer when lights are on inside, but curtains & blinds are still open for air, that I'd love to just pause time and take a stroll through some of the houses in pretty, old neighborhoods just to see "what it's like in there" - it's a facination that I've had since I was a kid. Am I weird? Hm... probably, but anyway...

We just moved into a new house, and for the first time ever I have a WHOLE room all to myself for crafty purposes! I'm seriously over the moon about it! It's still coming together so I haven't taken pictures or posted about it yet, but I will soon! It has everything I need; good natural lighting, a sewing table that doesn't have to be put away, a place for all my crafty books, and all my fabrics & patterns, a cutting table, lots of closet space, and of course that all important squashy armchair!

I loved getting a peek at your crafty space, it has so many bright, happy colors mixed in there, you know I'm a fool for happy color!

Please toss my name in the hat for a chance to win that neato book!
oxo,
Lisa

p.s. Dayum girl, that's a lotta floss!

I love your space--it's so spacious! I usually just sit on the couch while stitching--all of my schtuff is in closets and shelves--and not pretty ones. That would be my dream space though--plenty of space to store everything so you always know where it is and a big comfy chair with a flat screen TV--cuz I don't know about you but I like to watch TV while I stitch. Also a bar would be nice, too ; )

SWOON!! Love!!!
So pretty, Pam. Love the granny chic. Funny you said that because Mr. W. refers to 'my' room as the same..
I wish I could have more things laid out but I have to rely on clever storage because of cats with obsessive chewing habits.
Apart from your space, I do love Danielle Thompson's entire house ...she's very creative and her house style is just gorgeous. I think this link includes her office space, but really it's worth checking out the whole thing: http://thompsonfamily.typepad.com/thompson_familylife/2010/10/home-tour.html

A place with comfy chairs for me and friends, lots of light, white walls, white shelves and pink storage bins. A few scattered doggie beds for my furry buddies and a perch for my Quaker to join me. :)

I have a great craft space that has not yet reached it's potential! I've been working on it for ages! Hopefully this summer I get the chance to really get things organized and functional! I have bins on the floor of stuff that needs to be put away and I'm going to get a natural light lamp to add to my 2 existing fixtures since I'm in the basement with no windows!

I am working on setting up my craft room right now - your post inspires me. I had not planned a comfy chair, but now I must add one! I love how warm and cozy your room is.

I hope to have mine set up soon - I will share pics when I do!

My craft space is shared with my bedroom (except for painting, which I do downstairs in the kitchen). I love your cozy crafty area.
My dream crafty space would be to reno the big storage barn in the backyard with insulation and drywall, electricity, heating, etc. Put in a big frosted glass window, and fill the walls with art and shelves full of buttons and beads. I would have a big shelf full of fabrics, organized by designer and color, and a lovely L-shape sewing desk. I would have a super plush chaise so I could lounge and stitch. I would have to install a doggie door so that Booker could pop by for a visit whenever the mood strikes.

Your space is rockin'! I just spread out all over the place, mostly on couches. Someday I'll have a true spot just for me :)

Your craft space is so cute and organized, Im very jealous! :)My "craft room" as of right now is half my bedroom! But my all time dream craft space would be an attic room with big open windows. Id have a big table for my sewing machine and plenty of space for big projects! Id have a whole wall just for spools of sewing thread, embroidery thread, and hoops. Id also love to have books shelves lining the walls so I can store my fabric and see all the pretty colors every time I create something! Not to mention a comfy spot for my kitty to perch close to me as well! :)
